How to Celebrate National Peach Month

Sweet juices, a delicate tartness, and plump to the touch – peaches offer one of the best tastes on Earth. Having branched out from the native wild peach groves of China, this delicious fruit has been praised by individuals around the world for their many benefits: nutrients, medicinal effects and flavor.

At Home Care Assistance of Tampa Bay, healthy living is an important component of our Balanced Care Method™, our unique and holistic approach to senior care, health and wellness. This month, we’re celebrating National Peach Month. What a fantastic excuse to have some fun with the senior in your life!  Here are a couple ways to celebrate your favorite stone fruit:

  • Make Your Own Facial Mask – Peaches are famous for their soft, delicate flesh. Did you know anyone can experience this softness on their own skin? The fruit is an incredible all-natural moisturizer. You can easily whip up a homemade moisturizing face mask using the world’s oldest cultivated tree fruit. Simply mash up some peaches, add a tablespoon or two of olive oil, and stir in the juice of a whole lemon or lime. Mix well. Apply it to your faces and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Voila – enjoy facial skin as soft as a peach!
  • Make a ‘Peach Melba’ – The Peach Melba is named after renowned Australian opera soprano, Nellie Melba. This mouth-watering dessert has a simple recipe: poached peaches, vanilla bean ice cream, and raspberry purée. But be careful, this delicious peachy dish can be highly addictive. First, cut a peach in half. Simmer each half in syrup or plain sugar water for a few minutes on each side. Let cool, then pull off the skins. For the purée, mix fresh raspberries with confectioner’s sugar. Top it all off with a dollop of vanilla bean ice cream, and dig in.

Peaches are also known to fight obesity-related diabetes and cardiovascular disease as they are rich in phytochemicals which can act as illness fighting antioxidants. They’re also known to help prevent cancer, reduce hair loss and can even help to promote digestion. With so many benefits, you may be more inclined to add a peach to your daily diet.
